About First Christian Church
First Christian Church was established in 1889 in a site located in downtown Amarillo. FCC moved to its current location in 1968. We're proud of our long and stable history in this community. It's a history that has long been entwined with the history of the city of Amarillo. The Christian Church, Disciples of Christ had it's beginning on American soil in the early 1800's as the Stone and Campbell movement. The Red Chalice with the X shaped cross of St. Andrew was adopted as the denomination's logo to symbolize the centrality of the Lord's Supper to Disciples. The St. Andrew cross represents out Scottish Presbyterian roots. Thomas and Alexander Campbell came from Scotland. Communion (the Lord's Supper) is celebrated weekly during the worship service. Everyone claims Jesus Christ as their Savior is invited to participate. Baptism is practiced by immersion.
Core Values
We believe in the value of God's Word being taught and learned. Because of this belief we strive to continually proclaim the truth of God's word with relevant, creative, and life-convicting methods. (Psalm 119:105; 2 Timothy 3:15-17)
We believe in the value of changing lives.
As a result of this value we believe that every person on the face of the earth needs the grace of God through Jesus Christ and when it is received it will continually change each of us more and more into the image of Jesus. No one should ever be the same. (Matthew 28:19-20; 2 Corinthians 3:3; 2 Timothy 4:2)
We believe in the value of community.
As a result we strive to connect people to others in order to promote unity, fellowship, and belonging all across the life and ministries of FCC. (John 17; Ephesians 4:1-16; Acts 2:42-46)
We believe in the value of prayer.
Because of this we strive to be in constant communication to God and from God on behalf of others and ourselves. (Matthew 6:5-13; 21:13; Romans 12:12; James 5:16)
We believe in the value of stewardship.
As a result of this value we encourage each person individually and the body corporately to live this out in the areas of their time, their resources, their talents, and their gifts. (Romans 13:6-8; 1 Corinthians 12:1-31)
